What travelling means to me

Travelling for me has been an escape. An escape from stress and fulfilling the differing expectations from myself, my family and society. But it’s also more than that. I’m on this journey they call “self-discovery”. Every trip I make, I seem to find another piece of myself. But I’m also at this point of my life where I am questioning whether I should be looking for “me” or rather creating and moulding myself.

All I know is that life is too short and I want to make sure I make the most of it. I don’t want to be stuck in a 9-5 job that I know will slowly kill my soul. I want to grow my soul. I want to do what I love, see the world and experience new cultures. I’m still trying to work out how I’m going to accomplish this, but the Lord is my strength and I know he has great things planned for me.

There is just so much hate and ignorance in this world. Travelling is such a great learning experience. You meet new people from all walks of life and can immerse yourself in a whole other culture. One thing I have learnt is that although we are so different, we are still essentially the same.

I never imagined being able to say that in a year I would travel to six destinations. For seasoned travellers this may be nothing, but for me this is an accomplishment and it is only just the beginning. I know that even if I do give in and do the dreaded 9-5 job, I won’t let the routine of life let me give up my passion. The call of wanderlust is too strong. I will always travel.

I’m going to leave it there for now. Let me know what you think in the comments and what travelling means to you.
